Today Katie, Felicity, Charles, Carla, and I went to Oak Openings for nearly two hours tromping through the woods. The weather was a little balmy, in the high forties, but otherwise pleasant. We found an area of sand dunes reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It was all fairly surreal, especially when we found several instances of Katie's name scratched in the sand. Proof of intentions from an extraterrestrial civilization which had visited only recently to leave us a solemn warning: KATIE. What it means we may never know.
We also saw a fairly decent number of deer running around, and Charles was half successful in persuading one to come up to him. The deer seemed interested but ultimately hesitant to make the effort. So Felicity took a photo of a mushroom. She took photos of a bunch of other stuff, so hopefully she'll post 'em somewhere.
Upon leaving we took dinner at Waffle House where Charles and Carla filled the jukebox with Katy Perry and Gwen Stefani. B-A-N-A-N-A-S and all that, you know. Charles cites it as the best dollar he ever spent.
Having eaten we came back here where the kids spent entirely too much time watching Ghostriding videos on the YouTubes. Also, Charles is convinced that Cyndi Lauper had a lucrative career as a pro-wrestler in addition to the singing shtick.
We watched the first two episodes of Azumanga Daioh before Katie and Felicity got tired of my face and left just as Dan came over. We watched The Prestige (dir. Christopher Nolan, 2006), which is always excellent, before the three of them departed as well.
And that was how the day went!

It's time to bring Saturday activities back online so this weekend, October 17, will be a reintegration day. We're considering the good possibility of going to Oak Openings at 4:30. Otherwise, it's just an excuse to make you guys remember how to spend time cordially acknowledging one another's company.
So that's this weekend.
