On Saturday we had Christmas Loot Movie Day, which is the first time we've done that and I think it worked. The premise was simple: the selections were limited only to the movies that we got for Christmas. Luckily, Charles and I tend to ask for pretty watchable movies, so it's not like there was only a stack of niche films that appealed only to one of us.
Charles, Carla, and I began with The Blob (dir. Irvin Yeaworth, 1958), staring a young Steve McQueen at the beginning of his career. He wasn't yet the King of Cool but that's okay, he was still pretty awesome. I wrote a haiku about it:
It's super campy but it's also super fun. Also worth mentioning is the fact that The Blob has the best opening theme of pretty much any movie ever:
Amazing.
Next up was Blade Runner (dir. Ridley Scott, 1982) once Katie and Felicity finally arrived. We watched the new Final Cut edition, which tightened up the seams and made the movie smoother and more watchable than ever before. That still wasn't enough though, so some members of our group griped that it was still too slow. Hogswallop, I say! Anyway, Katie and I did some haikus:
Katie's haiku brings up an important talking point about Blade Runner, namely whether Deckard is a Replicant or not. Ridley Scott says yes, Harrison Ford says no, and everybody else has an opinion one way or another. If anything, it prompts discussion and that is precisely what we did.
The last movie that we watched was The Room (dir. Tommy Wiseau, 2003). It was just terrible but it's one of those movies that accumulates a rabid click of cult followers who memorize the dialogue, champion the cause of spoons, toss footballs around, and march the Earth in the name of Tommy Wiseau. I daresay that Carla and Charles are of this group. The rest of us are but simple visitors.
Charles also entertained us with The Room's DVD chapter listing. This will save you from having to actually watch the movie.
I want to end this write-up with a video of Katie, since she will hate me for it and never ever ever speak to me again.

Charles and I were tossing around an idea for this weekend. Since we haven't had a Saturday since Christmas where everyone's pretty much free -- and I don't suspect there are any skiing adventures planned for this weekend -- then we propose Christmas Loot Movie Day.
Basically, it's a day limited to whatever movies any of us managed to pick up for Christmas. I put that idea out to you, the people. It could be a dumb idea for all I know. Or it could be supplemented with stuff we already own. It's all good.
