Charles, Paul, and I gathered round the old tee-vee to watch Cinematic Titanic's debut film, "The Oozing Skull." It has the flavor of the old days of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and is a decidedly welcome addition. My only gripe is that it lacks the backstory of MST3K ... a heartwarming story about a man trapped in space with a couple of robots, forced to watch bad movies, and slowly going insane. Hopefully more will be answered in the next installment, whenever that may be.
We also watched MST3K episode 424, Manos, the Hands of Fate. A fan favorite, but still kind of painful to watch.
We spent entirely too much time watching thirteen year old commercials from some old MST episodes that I taped in 1995. It was sad on so many levels.
Lastly, we watched the movie that is generally agreed to be "so bad it's good," the fairly ridiculous Starship Troopers. Pros: Fun to watch, great battle scenes, sweet spaceships, good musical score, steady pacing. Cons: Plot, Jake Busey, sensibility, Jake Busey's teeth. Score: Mindless but somehow draws me back every time.
Additional con: Charles has just alerted me to an upcoming sequel. That will be the second follow-up, for those keeping track. Oh, and don't forget the animated series.
Alas, no photographs. My camera broke!

Cinematic Titanic's first episode, "The Oozing Skull," is in!
To celebrate, we're having a movie day on Saturday to celebrate the reincarnation of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the Third Millennium.
We'll be watching "The Oozing Skull." Beyond that, who knows? RiffTrax movies are possible, though I suppose anything could be on the table. Who knows!

The premiere video from Cinematic Titanic, the reborn spirit of Mystery Science Theater 3000, this will probably take place in a week or so once the DVD arrives. We may meld it into a MST3K/bad movie/riffing marathon if there's enough interest.
