Issue 5

25 October 2004.
A Pic A Day was moving along fine until the end of August when I just began running out of the time and inclination to draw. I was rather surprised by how many people wanted to know when this section would return. It seems I underestimated its popularity. To make it up, here's an ultra large helping of drawings since the last update!

Mashed Potatoes • 18 August 2004

I think this came about because Marie and I were discussing mashed potatoes one day at the table. I guess Marie really likes her mashed potatoes.

This was also the last Pic A Day drawing that I did. After that things got pretty hectic, school resumed, and I had less time to draw and update.

Totally Tah • 13 October 2004

This and the next two I drew with Tah one morning. I really really enjoy making this sort of scribble art. Not only are they quite fun to draw but they generally turn out pretty well, especially with stick figures.

Sour Tah • 13 October 2004

Another of the Tah scribble art. This one captures a more annoyed expression.

Caffeinated Tah • 13 August 2004

This'll be the last of the scibble Tah series. This is when you ramp up the amount of scribble because Tah thinks that the earlier two look like she's shaking. No, this is shaking.

Josh: Mildly Upset • 17 October 2004

This originally began as a drawing of Tah, but decided halfway through to make it myself. I think it explains itself.

Solve It With TNT! • 17 October 2004

Not everything needs to be handled with peace and consideration for others. When life gets you down, blow something up. Nothing says "Have a good day" like things exploding and shrapnel flying.

Grey Test 1 • 20 October 2004

I would like to state that my drawing style officially changed on 20 October 2004. I bought a 40% cool grey marker to experiment with shadows and highlights. I have fallen in love with this marker, it's just the greatest thing EVAR.

Andy's Accident • 21 October 2004

Mr. Andy Black paid a visit, and extolled me of his roller coaster experiences, and how he gets hurt on them. Here is a depiction of Andy's not being careful and finding himself being snapped in half at the waist on a sharp turn. His upper torso flies off while his lower half remains in the car. This is why you keep your arms inside the car at all times.

Khrushchev Doesn't Like You • 21 October 2004

Also coming out of Andy's visit was this drawing of former Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev. This is the first time I've drawn Khrushchev as a full person, and not just a cyborg.

Side note: "Ian in Communism Land" will resume soon, I hope!

Bonus Drawings
Because I care

Marie = Teh Winnar • 23 October 2004

Marie, Jeff, Ian and I went to the bowling alley one evening. Being that I hate bowling, Jeff played my role, as he'd done in the past. I sat at the table and drew pictures of us bowling. Here's the first one, showing Marie the Engineer kicking everyone's butts. I mean, her first roll was a strike!

Ian's Roll • 23 October 2004

Ian didn't roll as well as Marie did, so the opinion at this time was still that Marie was too clever for her own good. Jeff has managed to hurt himself.

Jeff's Roll • 23 October 2004

Marie didn't stay so hot for long. Jeff continues to get hurt.

Josh Hates Bowling • 23 October 2004

I really don't like bowling, not one bit and I express that here. Once more, Jeff gets hurt, though one wonders how he managed to get impaled by bowling pins.

These last three were the basis of Poor, Poor Jeff.

Sandworm Attack! • 23 October 2004

Ian and I briefly discussed movies with giant sandworms, like Tremors, Dune, and Beetlejuice (strangely, Sarlacc from Return of the Jedi and the space slug in The Empire Strikes Back didn't come up). This is based more on the sandworm from Dune.
