New Year's 2012
Friday 31 December 2011

Hey! 2012 is here and we welcomed it into being by watching Miles Dyson blow up the Cyberdyne headquarters in Terminator 2 (1991). Our overall theme this year was movies who had divisible-by-ten-year anniversaries. The lineup included Little Nemo (1911), The Flying House (1921), Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), and the non-Bogart version of The Maltese Falcon (1931). The whole thing came together at the last minute and with a bit of anxiety, but it worked out well in the end.

New Years are for reflection and we really felt the effects of 2011 that night. Our turnout was down to only Josh, Charles, and Dan, with Charles leaving well before midnight. We lost Felicity to Massachusetts the previous September and Laura to New Mexico last August. Katie was off doing her own thing and wouldn't have watched Terminator 2 anyhow. So ... hooray 2012?

Charles being detained on his way out due to the necessity of filling out some important paperwork.
Josh, always at some stage of needing a haircut. That's his defining character trait.
Some things never change. Dan, reprising his role of avoiding being photographed.
Charles leaves us. He actually had a valid excuse for once.
We began Terminator 2 at exactly 10:16:45 PM and Dan immediately ran to get tissues to counter cat allergies.
The midnight moment in Terminator 2 lined up exactly, to the second, with the stroke of 2012. Josh has a few words of well-being as we entered the new year.

At midnight Cyberdyne went boom.
2012! Another year to get through.
I mean, all I'm saying is that I don't post unflattering photos but I do post uncooperative photos. If he just held still then you'd never see anything like this.

Bonus Feature:

The decorations for Terminating the New Years.

The cutout insignia for Terminating the New Years that was displayed on top of the TV as all our event insignias are.
Careful timing went into planning the sync-up with midnight. Everything worked and our midnight moment was exact to the second.
