New Year's 2009
Wednesday 31 December 2008

Katie, Dan, Charles, and I welcomed the year 2009 into our homes and hearts by holding a Ghostbusters marathon on New Year's Eve. We began with the first movie, then took a break to make a trip to Meijer, and returned to start Ghostbusters II at 10:31:23 exactly. This allowed us to synchronize the pyrotechnic display of the Statue of Liberty's exploding torch to the stroke of midnight, bringing in 2009 with a flash, a bang, and a mighty impressive cinematic moment.

After watching the first Ghostbusters movie, Katie and Dan got into a rousing game of Othello.

Because, I mean, Othello is really serious business. It's like the difference between night and day, black and white.

Josh is just happy to bid farewell to 2008 in just another short little while.

During our between movie break we made a trip to Meijer where we were met by Charles, who was feeling ill and missed the first part of the evening. He was feeling better by this point.

Katie texts about how lame this whole thing is. New Year's Eve and she's at Meijer looking at fine cheeses.

Charles is not to be dissuaded, as those cheeses look mighty good.

Midnight! At the stroke of twelve the Statue of Liberty's torch exploded thanks to some excited slime and the intensity of Jackie Wilson.

Charles seems to be feeling much better. All is right with the world.

Once again Josh has survived to see another year.

Katie has had it with all this Ghostbusters, which is probably more of a Halloween sort of thing anyhow.

Dan takes his pie and goes home. No pie for us.

Charles lost his keys so we tore the room apart looking for them. Turns out they were in his sweatshirt pocket the entire time. A fitting start to the year.

The old Ghostbusters' firehouse playset, which I still have after all these years. It even features a sliding firepole and the Ecto-1-A inside.

This was our schedule for the new year movie synch-up. It had to be followed precisely or else dire circumstances would result.
