Finally, a late write-up about holiday movie day last weekend! As a matter of fact it went pretty darned well! Charles, Katie, and Dan happened by for a handful of seasonally-themed flicks, starting with the Christmas episode of Ren & Stimpy, Stimpy's First Fart (dir. John Kricfalusi, 1993, USA).

More wholesome programming followed in the form of Monty Python's Life of Brian (dir. Terry Jones, 1979, UK). Makes sense for Christmas, right? Absolutely.

This was followed up with Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (dir. Nicholas Webster, 1964, USA), in the form of Mystery Science Theater 3000, show 321. In it we learned the true gullible naivety of Santy Claus and the full meaning of having for oneself a Patrick Swayze Christmas.

We ended on a depressing note, with Joyeux Noël (dir. Christian Carion, 2005, France), about the unofficial Christmas Eve truces that broke out along the Western Front in 1914. Although it impressed a somewhat feel-good sensation in the middle, this is book-ended by the brute realities of war and, come the conclusion, the characters that we now like have to face the consequences of their actions. Sort of dreary but a really good movie nonetheless.

Tomorrow, Saturday the 20th, is Holiday Movie Day, which'll be made up of Christmassy movies to motivate us in these stressful times. It'll start around 4:00 and consist of whichever holiday films we can cram into our time together.

Won't that be just sappy!
