Charles, Dan, Felicity, Katie, and I had a Terminator Movie Day. We initially hoped to do this before going to see Salvation but that never panned out. So we watched The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Katie only stuck around for the first one and Dan left after the second, leaving the remaining trio of us to weather the third film alone. None of us had seen it before so we were in for a treat, to be sure.

Felicity was probably the wisest for falling asleep through Terminator 3, but Charles and I stuck through it. I'll admit ... it really wasn't as bad as all the rumors made it out to be. I was expecting some horrible, steaming pile of refuse but it wasn't. Maybe it didn't seem as bad simply for not being miserably terrible, which isn't a high standard to live up to. All in all, T3 was just boring and relied too much on "whiz bang" moments and fireworks to tell the story. On the plus side, it kept a decent sense of humor, had great production design in terms of the Skynet prototypes (miniature precursors of the H-Ks we know from the prior films), and had a decent cast who did their best with what they had. It's nowhere on level with the first two (and now the fourth), but it's like the ugly puppy in the litter: you'll include it with the others but might not look as it as often.

May 23 is being penciled in as Terminator Day. We'll watch the first three movies (or the first two, since the third is forgettable) to commemorate the release of Terminator Salvation. The possibility of this taking place during the week to precede the release of the new film into theaters is being explored, but work schedules may preclude that possibility.
