Charles and I are watching the movie Gettysburg at 5:00 today if anybody's interested.

I had no intentions of making an insignia for our movie watching this week but, as all good intentions go, I accidentally did. I was fiddling with drawing some Civil War flags and one thing led to another. Click for larger images:

Vexillologists will certainly point out that the use of the Confederate "Stars and Bars" is a misnomer in the first graphic and that the "Stainless Banner" issued in May 1863 would certainly have been at Gettysburg two months later. I know this. I used the more recognizable flag to bridge Gods and Generals and Gettysburg for the movie watching. The second version features the proper "Stainless Banner" that was flown by the rebels at Gettysburg in July. The figure in the center is from the Gods and Generals poster art.

Today we watched Gods and Generals but tomorrow Charles and I will be starting Gettysburg at 5:00. It's a bit over four hours long and it's open to anyone who wants to watch.

This week marks the 145th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, which raged on July 1, 2, and 3, 1863. In commemoration Charles, Dan, and I are going to be watching Gods and Generals (2003) on Wednesday and Gettysburg (1993) on Thursday.

Given that each film is approximately four hours long and sort of a niche subject I'm unlikely to screen either one very often. So, if there's any interest in seeing either or both then feel entirely free to drop by. We're breaking them up over two days because that fits Charles' schedule and because even I can't handle both in one day (trust me, I've tried).

To be honest, Gods and Generals can be sort of a chore at times, but Gettysburg is fairly solid through-and-through.
